The All-CAC selections are on the CAC website now

cuabigdog

congratulations to Shannon Mertz, Kristin Linderoth and Maria Rojas on their selection to the 2nd team ALL CAC and to all the LADY CARDS on and outstanding season... good luck in the ECAC's
CUA 2001 NCAA  DIII Basketball National Champions

Hmmm .... Congratulations to all 11 players who made first or second team All-CAC.  They all deserve the honor (as would a few others if they'd been selected). Congratulations, too, to POY, COY, and ROY.

Matt Letourneau

Ok, can somebody explain to me how Kristen Linderoth can receive more votes than Keli Ward on the All CAC teams, yet Ward wins the Rookie of the Year????

How does that make ANY sense?  If she's good enough to be one spot away from first team all CAC, than why didn't she win ROY?

Now, our friend YCP made a strong argument for Kelli Ward, and I certainly think she is deserving, I'm just saying that the results don't make any sense.

EDIT: I would note that unlike the men, the list specifically says its listed in order of votegetters.  And the POY didn't get the most votes, either, but at least she is a senior so you can explain that.

Both the first and second team selections look to me like alphabetical listings according to the players' last names ... the heading says the first team is the top 5 vote getters but it doesn't say they are listed that way ... the second team is the next 5 vote getters (plus a tie) ... I doubt statistically that it is very probable that a list in order of the top 5 votegetters just happens to also be alphabetical, and twice at that since the same thing happens in the second team

Matt Letourneau

Yes, that could be it then.

I didn't even think about it because Linderoth was listed first, and how often do you have an 'L' leading off a list?  Plus it said it was listed in terms of vote getters.

But, it was probably alphabetical.  At least that makes sense.  The pair of them must have been pretty close though.

The quality of the freshmen in the CAC this year was obvious.  The choice of who should be ROY wasn't as obvious. Either Linderoth or Ward is a good choice. There were others, too.
The coaches' voting for All-CAC, ROY, POY, COY, didn't result in the choice of anyone who was undeserving.

Matt Letourneau

From what I know, I'd agree.

mwcsid

Yep, I did them alphabetically...
Without divulging any secret info, I can tell you that a huge number of players were voted for across the board, lots more than on the men's side. There were six on the second team due to a tie for the final spot.

Whew! Long hours this week... Those dang four home Spring games today mixed in weren't a blessing (at least we won three of four games though).

Go Eagles, Go Saints.

Matt Letourneau

You did a good job, though.

I just got confused with the result.

This is my first time posting on this site but I follow CAC basketball and just wanted to comment on the POY selection.  Randi Jones is a decent player but I don't think she was deserving of POY honors.
Mary Washington had a phenomenal year and I feel that either Debbie Bruen or Liz Hickey deserved POY.  Mary Wash was one of the best teams in the country and dominated the CAC's during the regular season with the only slip-up coming in the Conference Championship.  Bruen averaged 12 points and 8 boards a game for one of the best teams in the country and Hickey averaged 10 and 8 while also dominating the defensive side of the ball.  Randi averaged 14 a game but took 200 more shots a game and shot 20 percentage points less then both of the aforementioned players.  Give Bruen or Hickey 200 more shots on the year and they would easily be averaging 20 ppg.

Hookie...Pookie,

Soar Grapes!!!!
You're just upset because the POY (Randi Jones) is the one that hit the shot to send Mary Washington in "Desperation" Mode......and I didn't see either Bruen or Hickey respond in overtime as a clutch POY would.........they will have their chance next year.
I'm sure CUA posters would disagree with you also....I thought Lindsey R. was clutch.

Jones gets to go out with a third NCAA tournament to her credit ( 1 Sweet 16, and 1 Elite 8)......although this year, the chances of getting out of the first round will take another high powered effort (as against MW) to move on.......

Hookiefreak99

Randi did hit some clutch shots toward the end of the game, however she didn't blow me away with her performance.  She missed a lot of shots and had several turnovers.  Randi doesn't shoot a good percentage from the floor and throws up many bad shots.
Plus, you don't give the POY award to someone based on their performance in one game.  The award should go to an individual who had a great year all season which led to team success.  What's more important, the fact that Randi averaged 2 more points per game cause she took an extra 10 shots every game, or the fact that the two Mary Washington players mentioned played a team game and ended the season with 7(and probably more) wins then Marymount.

jfarchitect

Let's go the tape.......59 seconds left in overtime....Marymount up by 2and "Jones hit a 22 footer".... timeout Marymount.......Mary Washington is in trouble.......down by 5 under a minute......and couldn't pull it off on their own court......REALITY CHECK HOOKIE POOKIE!!!!!

Marymount has been carrying the torch for the CAC 5 out the last 6 years (NCAA Appearances)....you nailed the reason in your last post "Teamwork"!!!

Marymount got to the Final 4 in 2002 with a First Team All-American...but....there were 4 starters that averaged in double figures......a totally team oriented game.....that group graduated in 2004.......enter Mary Washington in 2005.....it is up to "Yuz guys" to carry it further......you have the nucleas for 4 years to dominate......
Randi Jones is a senior with a couple of other players that have been there in tough NCAA times.......look at the 4 NCAA appearances:
Sweet 16: losing in double overtime
Sweet 16: losing by 1
Elite 8: losing by 4 to the previous year NCAA Final 4 rep.
Final 4: beating a Middle-Atlantic team by 3 who purchased their airfare the night before because a CAC team never goes to the Final 4....and now, with a player who can carry a team (Randi) when her teammates have never been in these charted waters.......IS Team Oriented.....players learn by example......right Mom and Dad!!!!!

Mary Washington did not know how to pull it out when it counted.......but now they DO!!!!
they are the team that will carry the torch for the next 2-3 years....if they decide too.....and not be a "Bodie Miller" if you get my drift....
It is not up to the underclassman to carry a team........Senior leadership may not even get in the game but can show strength in waning seconds of knowing that this is the  last time to "Dance"!!!!!!

THIS POST NOW........NEEDS TO GIVE THE PLAYERS THE CONFIDENCE TO GET TO THE NEXT ROUND.......NOT WHINE ABOUT INTER-CONFERENCE SELECTIONS.......LET US TAKE A LESSON FROM THE YOUNG LADIES OF THE COURT.......THEY ARE ALL A "CLASS ACT"

At the start of next season I want to tell prospects about a conference that leaves the Court proud to be a Champion......when everyone else in D3 took them as not!!!!!

bbald eagle

If there were a CAC tournament MVP award, Randi Jones would have been the only logical choice.
She also was easily one of the players who could have been named POY based on the entire year.
The league's coaches see more CAC games in person and on film than probably anyone else.  I don't know the tally of their votes for POY, but I don't see how selection of Randi Jones slights Mary Washington's Debbie Bruen (last season's POY) or Liz Hickey or, for that matter, anyone else.  After all, the coaches voted Bruen, Hickey, and Jones to the first team All-CAC, which is a real honor.
Randi deserves our congratulations - she had a great year.
