The 2006 Gallaudet Holiday Basketball Tournament result..

Frostburg State beat Gallaudet women 89-53 in the championship game. It was close game until mid of second half which costly turnovers and mistakes beginning to pull it away for Frostburg State. Overall, it was impressive tourney for Gallaudet women team.

St. Joseph beat Southern Vermont in the consolation game, 70-59 to take 3rd place in the tournament.

The All-Tournament Team selections are: Gallaudet's Shabnam Razmpour, Frostburg's Tracie George and Krystin Hargrove (Tournament MVP), St. Joseph's Lynette Reyes and Southern Vermont's Jaleesa Marshall.

Special thanks to Ruth's Chris Steak House for sponsoring the whole tournament as it went VERY successful. Up next for the Gallaudet Bison, this wednesday evening at 7pm home game against Villa Julie College.

Thanks for the link to listen to the game.  The eagles have really taken the loss in stride thanks to the depth of players and the experienced leadership.

#8 UMW Women's Basketball Tops Shenandoah, 80-69

FREDERICKSBURG, VA - The eighth-ranked University of Mary Washington women's basketball team jumped out to an early double digit lead, and held on for an 80-69 win over Shenandoah university on Monday night at Goolrick Gymnasium in the Eagles' home opener. All-American senior Debbie Bruen led all scorers with 21 points, and All-America junior Liz Hickey added 17 points and 11 rebounds in the win.
The Eagles led at halftime, 43-34, thanks in part to eight points from Hickey and seven apiece from Bruen and senior Lisa Tracy. The Eagles pushed the lead to 19 with 13:54 remaining, with a 57-38 cushion. The game Hornets remained tough throughout, but UMW made eight of 10 free throws down the stretch to claim the eleven-point win.
In addition to Bruen and Hickey, Tracy scored eleven points, and Sarah Flanagan added ten for UMW. Shenandoah was led by Alexis Hargbol's 20 points, while Alicia Sanders and Whitney French added 12 apiece.

bbald eagle-
on your post in the USASouth.  Shenandoah has been a solid team team the last few years.  I just think now they are living up to thier potential.  Cassie Womack I think is one of the most athletic posts I have seen in the USASouth.  The coach may have alot do due with it, but I think they are ridinf the wave they had at the end of last year.  Real close to playing in conference championship game.  They were 7th in the conference last year.

Pride - Thanks. Whether it's living up to potential or much improved, the new coach has them playing better than what I'd seen before. They were stronger at post, too. C. Womack was great on the boards. #44 A. Hargbol knows how to score. I wouldn't expect them to be 7th this year. Good luck in your conference.

about SU again  it was the 2004-2005 season the year RMC made it to the NCAA finals.  SU played them an only lost by 7 points and they finished last I believe that year in the conference.  They seem to play well early on in the season.  This year a little better.

I haven't been able to see any of the games this year.  What kind of defensive schemes are teams trying against umw?  With so many weapons on the team it does not seem like teams are likely to frustrate bruen with the double team.  Last year marymount and catholic never let bruen score over 12 points in anyone game.  Yet of those five games there were four different leading shooters: tracy with 17, hickey 18 and then 17, kampman 15, and Clarkin 17.  Now all these players have a year under their belt. I do not see how teams would be able to double team with the respect that was earned last year.  There were a number of other games last year where this was the case but I chose to highlight these because catholic and marymount are the most familiar with umw's style of play and are perennial rivals.

From my limited and humble perspective UMW are the ones playing tenacious defense,  those double (not to mention triple) teams spoken of appear to be in remission.
