Larson, Mitchell Lead #1 UMW Women's Basketball Past Va. Wesleyan

Tournament Most Valuable Player Katy Larson scored a career-high 21 points, and all-tournament team selection Ashton Mitchell added a career-high 19 to lead the top-ranked University of Mary Washington women's basketball team to a 75-51 win at Virginia Wesleyan College in the championship of the Cox Communications Tip-Off Tournament on Saturday. The Eagles improve to 2-0 on the season.

Larson, a junior guard, made 6-7 field goals, including both of her three point attempts, and made seven of nine free throws in 29 minutes. Mitchell made 8-17 shots for her 19 points. Senior forward Lisa Tracy was the third Eagle in double figures with 14 points.

Senior center Liz Hickey had eight points, 11 rebounds, and two blocked shots before fouling out, and senior forward Leigh Kampman added seven points and eight boards.

UMW jumped out to a 20-5 lead thanks to a 12-1 run early on, and held the Marlins at arm's length from then on.

The Eagles will visit Washington & Lee University on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.

UMW has a well balanced team, is there any lady they cannot go to?

I am most curious who posted the score on the D3hoops scoreboard as "Mary Washington  75  Virginia Wesleyan  71  Final "

Maybe an ODAC saboteur?  :D

UMW is at Washington & Lee tonight. W&L is 0-2, losing in OT last weekend to last year's next to last team in the CAC - Goucher - so it probably will be a mismatch.

In a battle of unbeaten squads, York hosts Lycoming tonight.

Spartans lead Lycoming 38-29 at the half.

Kristen Daly leads a balanced York attack with 10 points. Amanda Andrews has 8 pts and six boards while April Sparkman has 7 pts and 3 rebounds.

Adding that link to our scoreboard through Presto will enable everyone who visits the scoreboard page to see it, not just the handful who stop by this message board early on a Monday evening.

Final from York, Spartans 74-50.

Thanks for the heads up Pat. I will include that on Wednesday.

Marymount's now in the "Others receiving votes" part of the top 25 poll. It'd be nice to see two CAC teams in the top 25.

The UMW home opener tonight against Salisbury unveils the CAC and NCAA Final Four banner.
Will there be live stats, mwcsid?

Sorry, no live stats for home games (we want you to fight traffic and get down here and see the sweet new scoreboards ;D)

Final was UMW 97, Salisbury 54. Mitchell is developing into a very good player, so happy because she worked very hard in the offseason again this year. She had 21, 8-9 from the floor, and made a three, she's now 2-2 on threes this year. Hickey had 15, Larson 13, Kampman 12, Tracy 11.

Eagles had just 11 turnovers, and was 22-27 from the free throw line, liked to see those numbers.

UMW,  No. 1 and no live stats  >:(

Coach Applebury going for her 100th win on Saturday at Hood.  And Liz Hickey in striking distance of her 400th block in that game too. Did I do the numbers right?
