It was an extremely fast paced game. Players on both teams got leveled many times with no calls. Not just knocked over....clotheslined!  Inside the game was brutal. The usual bumping the point guard went uncalled and I believe that is what caused the head injury.  A foul was called on that play, but it was too little too late. It went on the whole game.  And should turning around and glaring at the opponents fan section after you've made a FT on a T be considerred taunting?

Bad sportsmanship?  More like a total lack of good judgement and respect for an injured player. An unconscious player is serious. Nobody wants to see a player out cold.

I'm not going to bash the officials. Only they know what they saw and didn't call and with the injuries, they'll have to live with the consequences of their indecision. It can't be an easy job.

Wow, seems more like WWE or NFL then it did basketball. Baruch has been known to be a bad sportsmanship team. I have heard rumblings of this same behavior in other games. The taunting a fan section is unprofessional as real college players now the drill, it comes with the game.

I wish all of the injured players a speedy recovery, its a shame that these young ladies got injured in a game which is supposed to mean so much.

What was the reaction of the Baruch coaches, or were they just as unprofessional as the players?

Thanks for your well wishes for the girls. The game was in a word, unforgettable. :o

As for your final question.....I'll answer it this way. I spoke with the head coach after the game. He was gracious and kind and complimentary of the Eagles.

Tonight is another game, Ladies!!

Go Eagles!

Thats good to hear, glad to see at least the coach showed well. Good luck tonight, GO EAGLES!!

I too hope that the Eagle players are not seriously hurt and wish them a speedy recovery. When we talk about taunting though, it is important to note that 99 out of 100 situations, the taunting comes from the crowd and unless the home administrators put a stop to it, it gets worse and leads to retaliations on all sides, even if "just" verbal. (Note the photo on D3hoops with the Coast Guard player inbounding the ball with fans in his ear - why do home administrators allow this type of behavior???)

I thought the mantra at division III is to "be loud, be proud and be positive" - that doesn't include taunting opposing players or vice versa. The latter will be addressed.

It is a real shame that a college basketball team had to resort to "Street Ball" tactics to try and win a game. The coach, staff, and players of Baruch should face NCAA penalties for their vulgar display of basketball last night. Baruch coaches and players laughing while a player lay on the court with a head injury. We all understand basketball is a physical game but Baruch crossed the line last night. The officals should also be held accountable for letting the game get out of hand. I have been to hundreds of basketball games in my life at every level and this by far was the ugliest game I have ever seen. My thoughts and prayers are with the two young ladies who were assaulted last night.

While the opinions of regular posters on this board appear to be objective and professional, I feel a need to address the post made by UMWFAN.  I was at the game yesterday, as a Baruch supporter, and do not agree with the sentiments of the game being a "vulgar display of basketball", nor do I feel that anyone on Mary Washington was "assaulted."

Baruch's Women's team has toppled numerous ranked teams over the last 4 years under Coach Joseph by their aggressive, in-your-face style of play on both the offensive and defensive ends.  Their aggressiveness was matched by Mary Washington on Friday evening.  While it is unfortunate that two players' seasons appear to be over via injuries in the 1st round match-up, it is irresponsible to claim that Baruch intended malice in their play.

The thought that any of the players or coaches took solace in anyone being injured is ludicrous.  While Ashley Reed was being helped off the court, Coach Joseph was having a discussion with a referee over his disagreement of a call that negated a 3 pointer.  The fact that the referee claimed a jumpstop cannot be followed by a pivot without a travel being called resulted in a chuckle from the coach, who actually knows the rules.  There was no celebrating over an injury suffered by a fellow player.

Additionally, as someone who was in the Baruch section (which, by the way, was condensed to a bleacher section 2 yards wide), I feel it's necessary to point out that there was no celebrating over a player being injured.  The "celebrating" was a result of Coach Applebury getting a technical foul called against her for throwing something as she was arguing with the referees.  The cheering was towards Dominque McClendon, who was on her way to shoot the foul shots, with the hopes that giving Baruch 2 foul shots with over 3 minutes to go could result in a change in momentum.

The idea of the game being "resorted to street ball" rings very close to the statement made by Coach Applebury at that point in time, referring to the Baruch team as playing like "a bunch of animals," right in front of the visiting bench.  The racial undertones of these statements are both hurtful, and depressing.  Anyone familiar with Women's Basketball can easily make comparisons to the Don Imus situation last year.

Sorry for the lengthy post, but I felt obligated to share my thoughts.

It was another exciting game for the Eagles. As predicted, the girls had to fill in the gaps left by the temporary loss of two of it's key players.  One of the starters played sick and I really don't know how she found the guts to do it, but she did. Good job, little Lisa ;)

TCNJ has some wonderful players and they should hold their heads high.  They never stopped playing!

The "sixth man", if you will, tonight was the fans. Thanks so much for the community for their continued support of these young women. True, UMW fans take up much of the gym. It's a small gym but the past two nights have been rockin'! With the school closing out it's spring break, I was afraid that attendance would be low and the crowd more subdued. I should have known better!!!

Congratulations, ladies. I love you all and am so proud of the courage and fire you showed tonight!

The Eagles did NOT disappoint last night against The College of New Jersey. Their play was both exhilarating and inspiring. Erica Lowe stepped up when called and delivered....high fives! Hoping and praying for Ashton and Ashley's quick return. My thanks to all the Eagles and Lions for displaying what D3 sports is all about. Beaming with pride for our Eagles! Yeah!!

I can't believe people from Mary Washington are complaining about poor sportsmanship after what the Mary Wash people tried to do to Baruch during the team's practice. I can only hope the NCAA is looking into it. They should take a cue from the NFL commish on this one.

Look in the mirror Mary Wash fans.

This story is going around and it's come to me from two very strong sources. I'm not sure if we have it on the record yet, however.
