Never thought I'd say this, but I miss the days when the banter between Wabash and DePauw supporters this time of year here was fast and furious.   :-\

At Least They Called It On Themselves:

When creating the official Monon Bell game shirt for the DePauw student body, the graphic used by the designer of the shirt was the Liberty Bell, crack and all, and not the Monon Bell.  Having not had the Monon Bell on campus since 2016 and only once in the last 10 years, I guess we can forgive the designer for not having a clue what the real bell looks like.

On a related note to previous posts bemoaning the lack of banter on this page, read a companion article in the same issue of The DePauw reference above entitled "Monon History".  Below is an extract of that article:

"The Monon Bell game used to be more than just a game.(bold is my add) The week preceding the annual contest has in the past included shared activities between the two schools, such as concerts, debates, an intramural all-star football game, an alumni football game the morning of the varsity contest and other events."

There is a lot of "used to be" things around this event, both from an alumni and campus standpoint.  Admittedly, times have changed and some of the activities held in the 70's, 80's, and 90's won't work anymore for various and sundry reasons.   IMHO, the leadership of both schools have stepped back from supporting events (and in some cases specifically rejecting opportunities) that would bring the the students and their respective alumni together.

As far as I know, the only collaborative event associated with the Monon Bell game is the annual (now in its 7th year) relay of the game ball from the visiting to home school on the Friday before the game.  This is done by the Phi Delts of both schools to raise money for ALS (Lou Gerhig was a Phi Delt from Columbia).

That being said....
DePauw to hell, we'll keep the Bell.

Yeah we used to fight each other on the track behind the end zones.

I agree. The days when the Monon Board would be shut down days before the game were great. It was a precursor to the lot before the game. I think the lack of interest now really has to do with the Depauw men having a wife and children at home that are more important than dealing with the techinical college boyzzzz on the interwebs.

Although they did away with the annual "touch" football game on Saturday morning, Denver does a great Monon weekend (As I have heard, and never been).

Friday 6-11 PM - DePauw vs. Wabash Bowling @ Moe's Original BBQ in Englewood

Saturday 9-11 AM - Tailgate @ Brooklyn's with DePauw vs. Wabash Cornhole Tournament

Saturday 11 AM - Monon Bell Game!! Telecast party @ Brooklyn's

The school that wins 2 of the 3 events this weekend brings home the trophy.

We would have a brawl at the coin toss. Flags were thrown, the teams separated, penalties assessed, and the game would start.

Also, too, Dabash sucks.

This is interesting.  Bowling + Cornhole > Monon Bell.  Gives the Denver Dannies a chance!
Does the trophy look like the Liberty Bell?  ???
Long shall we sing thy praises, Old Wabash

I had a great time doing this podcast yesterday (Steve Hoffman also did a segment).  Will be strange working my final Monon Bell game, but it's always a blast.

1. Lose Bell.
2. Get waxed in the playoffs.
3. Have stadium bulldozed. (Why even rebuild at this point?)

It has been a great few weeks for the boyzzz in red.
