No, it's typical that TU, like other SCAC schools, has double-headers.  The exception comes on weekends when the men play Colorado College because the CC women are D1, so it throws off the usual scheduling.   Usual conference play is women then men on Friday against one opponent, Sunday against another.

Thanks for the clarification. For some reason, I had it in my head that if the men were home the women were on the road.

Hardin-Simmons 2 - UT Dallas 1

H-S scores a goal in the 76th minute to break a 1-1 tie and go to 4-1-2 in the ASC.  If it can beat Ozarks on Sunday and Concordia loses at Mary Hardin-Baylor, Hardin-Simmons will jump ahead of Concordia and secure the second seed and the first round bye in the ASC tournament.  UT Dallas, after a 6 game winning streak that started with a win over Colorado College, has now only one win the last six games.

Good news for St. Thomas - Trinity is that San Antonio didn't get the rain forecast yesterday evening, and today's forecast calls for much lighter amounts than it did yesterday.  I hear the field was overseeded a couple of weeks ago, drains well, and a picture taken Monday shows it was in immaculate condition.

That's great to hear!  The ASC announced that they were moving the cross country championships on Saturday from the DFW area to Abilene because of the heavy rain up there.

Howard Payne 3 - LeTourneau 1

Big victory for HP, which is now tied with LeTourneau for the 6th and final spot for the ASC conference tournament.  Both of these schools have a game left (against East Texas Baptist and Sul Ross respectively), but HP now holds the head-to-head advantage over LeTourneau and presumably will advance with a win on Sunday.

Since LeTourneau's game against Sul Ross won't count in the standings, LeTu is out. HPU will be in the tournament provided that McMurry does not beat UTD tomorrow. Regardless if HPU beats ETBU.

Not sure if this has ever happened before in the ASC, but last year's tournament runner-up fails to qualify for the post-season...

HALF:  Trinity 1 - St. Thomas 1

Two big scorers come up big for their respective teams with Michael Meese scoring for Trinity and Taty Aleman for St. Thomas.  This feels like a heavyweight fight.  The field is in beautiful condition too after the rains!

Trinity and St. Thomas knotted at one at the break.  Meese scored first, Aleman equalized late in the first with a mighty strike from just outside the 18'.  Celts are having the somewhat better run of play with very accurate passing and ball control.  You can tell these guys aren't thrilled about playing each other but so far only one yellow has been assessed.

St Thomas' 4 corners have put pressure on Trinity, who have yet to earn a corner.

UPDATE:  St. Thomas 2 - Trinity 1

After Taty Aleman goes out with a knock, Daniel Castro settles a cross in the box and shoots a left footed ball over the GK and under the crossbar to put the Celts ahead.

UPDATE:  St. Thomas 2 - Trinity 2

Meese scores a rebound on a free kick to tie it up

One thing that is clear in this game is that both teams have top class strikers and offensive play generally and both teams have undersized GKs who make things a little more difficult for the defense on high balls into the box.  A taller GK could have done better on Trinity's goal in this case.

Update:  Trinity 3 - St. Thomas 2

Adjei scores on a 1 v. 1 in a counter attack and Trinity retakes the lead.

Thrilla in Manilla territory now

Absolutely, Crazy, crazy great game. Still tons left.

First rate video production and commentary.  Love how they zoom in periodically.  Even with the regular camera the view looks much, much better than most (all?).  Gotta at least be in top 3-5.

And the field looks fantastic.

Trinity has a fantastic soccer pitch in normal circumstances, but the rain really perked up the grass under the lights.

St. Thomas needs Aleman.  He came back in, but we'll see if he's ok or just gutting it out.  Hard to believe one of these teams may not even make the SCAC tournament.

Both GKs are trying to give away goals.  Lazo came out on a high ball where he had no chance and a UST defender saved the ball off the line.  Then, Wilman spilled a high ball and got bailed out by his defenders and a shot over the cross bar.

UPDATE:  Now it's starting to get a little ugly.  GK concedes a PK on a 1 v. 1 and the two teams start some extracurriculars.  Never a dull moment.

UPDATE:  Trinity 4 - St. Thomas 2

GK tries the old stand on one side trick for the PK, but the taker know he's going central and puts it back where he was.

FINAL:  Trinity 4 - St. Thomas 2

St. Thomas needs Texas Lutheran to beat Southwestern on Saturday night and it needs to beat Schreiner on Sunday.  Both totally plausible, but not the position it wanted to be in at this point.

Definitely, gk play hasn't been the best in this game.  One of the goals, the keeper who is not particularly tall, should have tipped the ball over the crossbar rather than give up the rebound, then saved the rebound, only to deflect it back to the player who slots it into the goal. Then the other keeper takes down the player in the box. Bad form. If you come out, you got to get the ball otherwise just get big and hope for the best.

Colorado College 3 - Austin 0

While St. Thomas and Trinity were beating each other up, Colorado College was having it way with Austin, playing lots of subs to win its 9th in a row and go to 7-0 in the SCAC.
