UST hosting actually seems probable.

I have not problem with UST field players trying to slow down the game by laying on the field. This happens at the highest levels of soccer. On the other hand, I have a huge problem with the stalling tactics of the goalkeeper. Some keepers seem to want to emulate the antics of E. Martinez (Argentina/Aston Villa). My thought is that he should have been warned and then issued a yellow card.

Regarding TLU, one has to remember that it was their keeper who decided to walk the length of the pitch and headbutt an opposing player. His actions (and the loss to Southwestern) are what cost them a bid to the dance.

Agree that TLU had a fair degree of culpability.

The GK thing is a problem...especially in PKs....by the time you give a warning and then a yellow you're already at the third kicker.  Even one miss can send you home.  The kid wasn't just delaying...he was doing voodoo level stuff...sticking something under the goalposts, kneeling literally on the ground for one, rewrapping his gloves, etc.  And the ref knew what was happening!  He was actually pretty much on it but still was almost totally ineffective at intervening.  The kid accomplished exactly what he should have accomplished.  Imo the referee should explain in the little meeting with the two GKs about behavior and that he will absolutely show red or give the other team do-overs if they engage in any of that nonsense.  Lol, I sound like I really am 135 years old.

Of course, all that said, Trinity just cannot let that game get to PKs.  There was no way Trinity was gonna win a PK shootout at the end of that match.

Ironically, it wouldn't be completely crazy for St. Thomas to get the #1 ranking in Region X after beating the previous #1 (Colorado College) and #2 (Trinity) teams, which would normally put them in line for hosting a pod in the first round.

I don't think that is likely to happen to the extent RvR is weighed heavily in the rankings. For calculation of RvR, I believe the final rankings are based solely on teams ranked in week 3 and final week released tomorrow, and the addition of Southwestern and loss of Pac Lutheran and MHB to the rankings in week 3 are meaningful.

Specifically, CC and Trinity beat SW so they will pick up that ranked win, but SW will now count as a ranked loss for UST. Pac Lutheran was CC's only ranked loss prior to playoffs which will no longer be counted, and the early season MHB wins for both UST and Trinity will no longer be counted. Pllayoff games decided by Pks, as was just noted, count as a tie.

I believe the new RvRs may be:

Colorado College 5-1-1  (W - TU, TLU, UST, SW, Chris Newport; L - UST; T - Ohio Northern)
Trinity 3-2-1 (W - SW x2, UST; L - CC, TLU; T - UST today based on game going to PK)
UST 2-3-1 (W- TLU, CC in playoffs; L - CC, TLU, SW; T- today's game going to PKs)

Obviously, the SoS may change a little bit, but prob not enough to allow UST to leap into #1.

I'm somewhat new to this, so if my logic or counting is incorrect, please feel free to correct!

To clarify, I am only opining on UST leaping into #1 spot in Region X, not whether they will host.

I am just sickened by that game....and far more upset than I was after my own team lost yesterday (and I was plenty upset).  UST as a team and school seems to have learned absolutely nothing.  The early red, the antics all over the field, the constant flopping and rolling around and laying on the ground, constant confrontations of the referee, and then maybe the worst display I've seen for PKs (and I've seen some bad ones).  The ref should have given the GK a straight red.  Unreal that he was premitted to do all that.  And then the announcer, the same one who said he saw nothing when UST's first PK taker today broke a TLU player's leg in two, was aghast when UST fouled the Trinity GK in the box and again said there was nothing.  He was so bad he started arguing with his color man.  One of the saddest things is that UST had a fair amount of supporters (including myself) heading into this season after last year's performance and Sweet 16 run.  I was a fan until that TLU game....and now I wish the program would be shut down or suspended for at least two years.

The actions that resulted in the red card against UST are abhorrent; if there was any integrity in D3 soccer and the SCAC they would disqualify UST (they should have been, along with TLU in the aftermath of that decacle). But I am not holding my breath --

The Cooper Sports production was HORRIBLE. Can't believe they pay to have that level of production. Among many mistakes, the announcer kept calling Joseph KURI Joseph Kurl. Kuri is a 3x all SCAC honoree. It is not like he is a last minute addition.

Red card was given for gestures directed at the opponent that referenced race.  The player on the receiving end of the gesture was African-American.

I was afraid of that, but didn't want to speculate in case I was wrong.  I have unfortunately seen that more than once in MLS Next as they have a banned term list and there are way too many kids who resort to those terms reflexively when they play kids of different races and ethnicities.  Ramirez should be out for the tournament if the penalty is going to have any deterrent effect, but I'm not optimistic. If he is, it will be because of prior reds and yellows.

The SCAC should have never let them play in the postseason.

It appears they removed both semi-finals as well, or at least made them private.

To be more specific, the UST player reportedly imitated the sound and actions of a monkey.
Let that sink in.

The SCAC is an embarrassment to Division 3. Gutless and feckless. And same goes for UST, a Catholic school that supposedly has values they stand for.

No surprise here, but Trinity women are on the road to start their NCAA journey, so that opens the door for the TU men to host should they get a bid.

TU hosting UTD, UST and Oxy. Pac Lu got sent to Minnesota and Colorado to Emory's regional.
