A battle over who has the oldest bookstore is PEAK D3 sports smack talk.

(I know you guys aren't talking smack, you get what I'm saying.)

Is it time for a separate ranking discussion?

I'm sure that I'm not the first one who's pointed out that moving from Nazareth to Bethlehem gets it backwards. ;)

SC, the quote in purple is from the Kenyon website, not UR...thankfully the Owls do not have a paywall OR a B&N bookstore.

And Kenyon and Moravian cannot both have the longest running college bookstore so we'll have to get a few of the folks in the research department to look into that.

I am still angry at the whole Lords/Owls thing.  May sting for awhile ....

Re: Moravian and from their website - Moravian Book Shop - Founded in 1745, the Moravian Book Shop is the oldest bookstore in America, the oldest continuously operating bookstore in the world and home to the Moravian University student bookstore

The Moravian Book Shop does NOT claim to be the oldest college bookstore, just the oldest bookstore.  While it currently is also home to the college/university bookstore, it does not say that was always the case. And, in fact, Moravian University had is roots in Nazareth, PA about the same time the Book Shop was founded in Bethlehem, PA.  The educational institution remained in Nazareth for over a century before gradually relocating to Bethlehem, PA.

Kenyon does NOT claim to have the oldest bookstore, or even the first (oldest) college bookstore, only the longest continuously operating college bookstore.

So, they both can simultaneously be completely accurate.

Co-champs...I can live with that.

It's very confusing because Moravian as a school in some form (according to history on website) dates back to 1742 when both a girls and boys school (separately) opened.  And then the bookshop started in 1745, so when you read those dates together one could conclude that there is a thread there that ties the bookshop to the eventual college/seminary....becoming chartered to offer degrees in like 1871 and going co-ed in I believe 1954.  Anyway, I assumed there was a technicality with the words 'continuously' and existing throughout on the exact same site continuously.

That was fun.  Where else could you get some complaining about how bad Rochester's paywall sucks to UR's bookstore being a B&N franchise to a battle over oldest bookstore between Moravian and Kenyon with a dash of biblical training along the way?

PaulNewman

Oh, and SC, wanna guess what kind of coffee they serve at the Rochester B&N bookstore?

If we accomplish nothing else this season let's (Reagan voice) tear down that paywall, Mr. Gorbachev.

Before we move on and back to D-III soccer discussion . . . .

The Moravian Book Shop is operated by B&N these days.  In 2018, the Moravian Church Northern Province approached Moravian College (now University) seeking to sell the Moravian Book Shop to entrust the legacy of the store to an owner within the "Moravian Family" and continue its focus on their 85 congregations. In April 2018, the college announced its purchase of the Book Shop and in June the store became the official college bookstore and went under the management of Barnes & Noble.

And we might have a controversy on our hands. Kenyon College Bookstore may not be the "third-oldest bookstore of any kind in America" as claimed on their webpage.
1. Moravian Book Shop, 1745
2. Andover Bookstore, 1809 (https://andoverbookstore.com/our-story/)
3. Brattle Book Shop, 1825 (https://www.brattlebookshop.com/about)
4. Kenyon College Bookstore, 1829 - "Planning for the store began in 1825" (https://www.shopkenyon.com/about-0), but it "began as a log cabin established in 1829" (https://kenyoncollegian.com/features/2014/09/once-upon-a-bookstore/)

FW...always trying to knock Paul Newman down lol.

You left out the word 'college'.

Fact: The Bookstore is the nation's longest continuously operating college bookstore and the third-oldest bookstore of any kind in America.

Addendum:  OK, you got me again.  But, as long as the first part is true, I'm good.

Getting further a field.  I grew up in a town between Bethlehem and Nazareth and we always thought the Moravian Book Shop in Bethlehem as a totally separate entity from Moravian College and whatever bookstore it may have had.  The book shop was always a very popular place to shop especially around Christmas.  It is actually physically located about a mile from the Moravian Univ. campus. So locally it was never associated as a "college book store" even though now the book shop may be a college book store as well.

FYI, if you are ever in the Bethlehem area in August, make sure you check out Musikfest which is an great time and right around the Moravian Book Store.

Some great bookstore trivia going on here - love it.  I grew up Andover, MA and I knew the Andover Bookstore was old, but I had no clue it was THAT old.

BaboNation

Babson with a dominating 3-0 win at home over Coast Guard,  Coupled with Emerson's win over MIT, Babson takes over the NEWMAC lead alone.  And 4 straight shoutouts.

But I'd trade all that for a draw rather than see midfielder Kalishman go down to what appeared to be a knee injury and needing assistance off the field.  He's arguably their most skilled at possession, precision passing, and building the attack.

Coach Jeff

Carthage did not show well against Messiah and Chicago.  They played with very little team chemistry in either of these games.  Only get one shot against Messiah and 6 against Chicago.  Just my thoughts on Carthage's season

The Firebirds only got seven shots against North Central yesterday, including just two on frame.

Coach Jeff

The Firebirds seemed to try and get all ten field players behind the ball and give both teams half field before they started to challenge them.  Are they coached to play that way or are they hoping not to lose by too many goals.  Must try to go to goal.  NCAA are encouraging ties but I think this is a mistake to play that way.

Hey all.  New episode of Around D3.  Make a few comments of the sad news out of York College this past week at the end.
