If true that's a big blow.  6 goals and 8 assists last season.   Is he moving up or going elsewhere in D3?

Even with Cortland's graduation losses I would peg them as strong SUNYAC favorites right now.

Crossit4fun

My source is pretty reliable, Was told a transfer to D1 or D2...

Agree Cortland strong favorite this year.... SUNYAC top spots 2-4 will be real interesting this year

Cortland are only losing Jack Coleman and their #6, along with anyone who was a 5th year according to sources. Heard their captains the all american #10 and their all region Center back are staying for a 5th year. Oneonta and NP look like they have brought in some decent transfers though. Should be interesting

"Only" losing Coleman is a pretty big deal though.  They return a lot and are definitely favorites, however. Axtell had talked about losing quite a few goals in his SC interview, I don't know if that included Marra who now seems to be back.  He redshirted in 2019 so I guess he might technically have one more year left but he's already been eligible to play 4 seasons already.   Scoring has never been an issue for Cortland, it's the back line that has betrayed them.  Usually they just outscore the opponent, but you can get chances against them with speed on the flanks and through the middle.

Oneonta ended up losing more than I expected in the end to graduation and transfers but it's rare for them to take a step backwards since they develop talent so well.   With no Brockport and Geneseo this will probably be a very top heavy league barring surprises.

Oswego State has posted its 2024 Roster

A few observations:

- 34 on the roster, compared with 30 last season

- 10 freshman

- Captain and M Kyle Gehnrich returns for a Covid year as a grad student after leading the team in assists last year, as does F Matthew Sturman

- Player departures of note include leading scorer Kieran Gilroy and starting defenders Matthew Sprague, Brendan Murphy, and Liam Rothar

Crossit4fun

Losing Gilroy is tough he scored a lot of clutch goals for Oswego and with the loss of the defenders you listed they will likely take need a year of development to challenge into the top 4. The Freshman MF Maldonado is solid addition. Having their Captain Gehnrich back will help them develop their team  he is a really good player and drives their offense.

Plattsburgh posted their Roster of 30, had 29 last year. Social media posted
10 incoming recruits with 3 of the incoming transfers from Ulster, Hartwick & New Paltz

New Paltz roster not posted yet but they had 29 last year and they posted on social media 10 new recruits 3 are transfers from NJIT, URI & Queens(GK].
3 players were grad students and from prior posts they lost at least two MF to transfers one went to D1 Siena and another to Platts. So its likely this year will be about the same range 27-30 depending on seniors returning or other transfers

You definitely have inside info, as I was just scouring social media to discover that Marra is in fact back at Cortland for a final season.  Would be his 6th year technically as he redshirted his freshman year and got the covid season.

Scrimmage Oneonta over Herkermier 6-0 today.

Cortland posted its 2024 Roster

A few observations:

- 37 on the roster, compared with 34 last season

- 13 Freshman

- A few players return for a Covid year as grad students, including 1st team All-American midfielder Mateo Marra, 2nd team All Region defender Alex Lessman, and regular contributor Matias Valenzuela Matic

- There is one grad transfer who appears to be using his Covid year - a player named Jordan Miller, with no additional information.  Might be forward Jordan Miller, who played 41 games and 5 starts (including during Covid) for D1 Delaware and is originally from Jericho, NY.

- Notable departures include 1st team All Region forward Jack Coleman, who had 10 goals and 4 assists last season, and regular starters midfielder Riley Williams and midfielder Marco Cottone

Feel like if Cortland wants to finally make a deeper run this has to be the year to do it.  No more covid players after this year.  Axtell will still get transfers but 5th year players are extremely valuable and this is the last season to use them.  Cortland will get their goals, but they need to be more consistent on the defensive side of things.  They are very prone to throwing lots of numbers forward and getting caught on breaks.  I've noticed that teams with speed can have success against them.  If they can clean it up at the back they definitely have final 4 potential.  I'll be excited to watch them play this season (except against SLU this Sunday of course!)  I'm a big fan of Axtell and the culture he instills in his program.

Oneonta roster is up.

Top 2 goal scorers return for their final season, as it turns out Somow didn't transfer in the end.  However, 2023 SUNYAC 3rd teamer Joe Holder does not appear on the roster.  Would be a junior, so this could be injury related.  Oneonta's entire midfield from last year left due to graduation or transfer, along with All American GK Nate Hanna who now roams the sidelines for SLU. Oneonta is one of the best at developing players so I do not expect much of a drop off, if any.  Would not be surprised if they end up besting their season from last year.

Crossit4fun

I'll have to eat crow on the false report on Somow transferring.

Losing GK Hanna & CB Bernardi will be very hard to replace.

A promising start for Potsdam with a dominating win over Baruch and a draw versus Manhattanville.

Oswego toughed out a win against Nazareth swapping goals in the first half and again in the second half before notching the game winner late.

Buff State with a win versus Mt. Aloysius 4-2

New Paltz with a win yesterday versus RPI 1-0 that could easily been a draw but then upset today by SUNY Poly 0-1

Plattsburgh with two solid victories over Manhattanville 5-0 & Baruch 6-0.

Fredonia with a 2-1 win over Elmira

Ejay

I had high expectations for New Paltz and am surprised to see they're off to a slow start.
