Canton has no business in SUNYAC.  They have exactly one competitive team there and that's a very good women's basketball team.  That's it.  Not a strong enough sports school to compete in SUNYAC.

They do need to figure something out.  They'll get a mulligan for their first season in the SUNYAC but right now they are hurting.  Weird dichotomy where the school itself has made a lot of strides academically and fits the SUNYAC mold now from that perspective.  I also really worry about their men's basketball in the SUNYAC this year.

Agreed.  Canton is a great school, but struggles on the sports side of things. It's sad to see the area so weak in men's basketball now.  SLU is the only good team in the North Country.  I think it's very hard for Canton, Potsdam and Plattsburgh to find players that want to go to school up here. It seems it anyway.

Plattsburgh at least on the men's side has made a lot of strides.  They should be pretty solid this year with the transfers they brought in, they have a very good coach.  Clarkson should be decent as well. But yea, Potsdam is very sad to see especially given their history.  SLU had to leave them off the schedule this season for the first time in history because of the hit they take to their strength of schedule by playing them.

The usual formula for Canton and Potsdam in a lot of sports was to hit on local talent and bring in JuCos and NYC kids, but that has been an unreliable venture in recent years.

I'm a Potsdam alum.  I LOVED the 80s.  But jeeze, they had 4,200 students back in 1992 when I was there and they have around 2,300 now. With young people not going into education, their enrollment has been gutted.  Going to be a long season for the them and for Canton.

With a small sample in SUNYAC so far, Potsdam's squad actually looks better this year than last years squad as does Fredonia. A few years ago they would both struggle to score a goal and concede three or four goals to the other SUNYAC teams.

Oswego is the wild card can they keep their run going getting points or will they start dropping giving Potsdam or Fredonia a shot for the last playoff slot.

Buffalo remains undefeated beating Fredonia on a PEN, red card to GK for DOGSO

New Paltz continues their winning streak 3-2 over Morrisville

Plattsburgh with an upset win over Oneonta 2-0. Plattsburgh outplayed Onenta in both halves

Cortland over Oswego 3-1.

For the first time in a few years the SUNYAC is up for grabs.

GK earned a red for DOGSO? Assuming they awarded a PEN, then it should have only been a yellow.

Outside the box.  No double jeopardy.

"The game's only goal came in the 70th minute. Fredonia State goalkeeper Jack Phelan left the goal box and grabbed a loose ball outside the boundary. A red card was called on the touch. The Bengal's Diego Rivera took the direct kick and drove it past a diving Thomas McDonald who entered the game following Phelan's red card."

Edit: above says outside the goal box but assume it meant the penalty box.  If not then this means the keeper foul was flagrant?

The notes in the play by play stated dogso -

The write up suggests illegal touching outside the box / direct free kick

I would assume GK took out offensive player and touched the ball outside box I am intrigued so I will try to view video of it when I have some downtime later

GK can still get a red if it's in the box if it wasn't a genuine attempt to play the ball.

Can't earn a red for DOGSO if it's in the box and the PK was given. That's a yellow. Avoids double jeoppardy.

Yes you can. You are correct if there was a genuine attempt to play the ball but if there wasn't it is still an ejection. (Source - Rule 12.7.4, page 68)

Interesting. I've never seen it worded that way. Usually the red card offense is for serious or foul play, or violent conduct, and not technically DOGSO. At least that's how IFAB separates it. I guess I stand corrected for NCAA rules.

Even in IFAB its still a red:

"
Denying a goal or an obvious goal-scoring opportunity (DOGSO)
Where a player commits an offence against an opponent within their own
penalty area which denies an opponent an obvious goal-scoring opportunity
and the referee awards a penalty kick, the offender is cautioned if the offence
was an attempt to play the ball or a challenge for the ball; in all other
circumstances (e.g. holding, pulling, pushing, no possibility to play the ball etc.),
the offending player must be sent off.
(Page 114)

It's only a yellow for DOGSO in the penalty area if there is an attempt to play the ball.
