I don't think its close.

He had a great tournament! Must be the intangibles you are referring to.

#22 in Goals against average
#11 in Shutouts
#17 in save %

What are we missing?

Well answer this. Would you want Freddy Rogers over Silvester entering a Final Four?

Clearly you don't want to bet against the goalie that has an impeccable record in the most important games of the season -- knockout games. Take a look at who Conn played starting from Nescac QF all the way to the National Final. Without Silvester, they would have lost to Amherst in the NESCAC QF and lost to Kenyon.

That's why it's not close for me, he's a game changer and shows up on the biggest stage. MW's schedule does not compare to Conn's either

Once Diffley was named first team All Region I and Silvester was second team, it was going to be a difficult task for Silvester to be an All American (not impossible mind you).  Diffley was only 4th team All-American and plenty of regions' first team All Region GKs didn't even make the team.  Silvester would have to have jumped not only Diffley, but a bunch of other first team all region GKs and those voters were unlikely to do that.

agreed - one of the intangibles is PK's - which I don't think would show up in the stats or voting? still won 2 of 3 shootouts this season with 3 saves in the finals......

As suggested a day or two ago...D3 is an embarrassment of riches when it comes to GKs.  I can rattle off 10-12 in my head without even being thinking about it...and for the most part I would be unable to clearly differentiate among them.

Do feel bad for Silvester. I mean, he'll go down as a legend, but if Conn pulls that out before PKs or with PKs, he would have been in ultra -legend category. He had to think 3 PK stops should have been enough...and he'd be right.

SKUD

He was super in the shootouts!

I think he might be the 2nd or 3rd best keeper in New England.

There is a goalie in New England who in the same categories is #1, #1 & #7.

FanofNescac

Assuming you're referring to Diffley. He's good and had his moments in prior seasons but I think the awards he won this season had more to do with previous success.

Wiliams hasn't beat Conn since 2013 too so when it comes down to Silvester v Diffley matchups its not close.

SKUD

Nope but Difley is solid too.  Wait now we are talking teams and matchups?

So many choices and it is an All American team. None or all or maybe 3 are correct. They are just putting names into slots, while trying to have all regions represented somewhere or somehow. Much more subjective as opposed to objective (which is virtually impossible as opposed to baseball).

Some of this sounds like baseball MVP - superstar on a crappy team v. a very good player on a very good team? Which is right? Who knows?  Only one thing that I can say is the AA list represents all regions.

He was the best GK I saw play this season.

The goalkeeper who was overrated in the All American teams in my eyes (putting aside Christian Burkhart, who I didn't see play because St. John Fisher wasn't really on my radar), was Alex Wolter for Colorado College, who I saw play a lot.  Don't get me wrong.  He's a solid GK with nice size and a good shot stopper, but he's a sophomore and there were a bunch of arguably more deserving seniors.  The Colorado College defense really flattered the GK.  Curtis Hale should have been higher than 4th team All American, but really the entire Colorado College defense played very well together and kept their keepers clean.  Perhaps as evidence of that, Wolter had a great .82 GAA and 30 saves (.750 save percentage) facing 90 shots, but he did that in 12 games.  Wolter's backup Spencer Besselaar played 10 games and had a .20 GAA and 16 saves (.889 save percentage) facing 52 shots.  Wolter faced the stronger teams, but playing only 12 games is already a huge difference for a GK, both physically and mentally.  And facing only 90 shots all season (and 142 between the two CC keepers) shows that Wolter really didn't face that much pressure.  Silvester, for example, faced 24 shots in the Amherst final alone and 216 for the season and he had a better GAA and a better save percentage.  You could argue that Walker White of Babson was also blessed with a great defense (and weaker opposition in some cases) since he only faced 143 shots, but he had a better GAA and Save% and he played 25 games, which is seriously exhausting.  Plus, Wolter had 5 shuyouts, compared to 13 for Walker and 10 for Silvester.  Bottom line for me is that a guy who played half the games isn't a 2nd team All American, especially in his first year playing (he didn't play a minute as a freshman).  And I think Wolter has a bright future.  I just saw that as a head scratcher.

CSC released the real DIII All American teams today (i.e., the Academic All-American teams!).  I always enjoy seeing the kids' majors and having their academic successes celebrated.  These aren't bench warmers who brought up the team GPA either.  They legitimately are stars both on and off the field.

Nathan Donovan was named played of the year, which is nice recognition for a kid who had a fantastic season (26 goals and 15 assist) and then suffered an injury that kept him out of Eau Claire's entire NCAA run.
