Kitchens has been going to physical therapy for the past 6 weeks and will get a timeline on throwing next week. It's not a full tear, the tendon looks good but since it is pure muscular Yocum said that surgery is not advised.

Other injuries like this have taken up 18 months to recover.

Yes, he was a bluejay, but at least he wasn't a Giant.

Kitchens and Cahill are good friends so it would be a unbelievable if they became teammates.

Due to a right pec tear Kitchens is still unsigned and unable to throw a baseball.
#3
according to my sources, Semel has signed and is now in Tennessee.

I think it's safe to say ABCA does some pretty bad research when it comes to D3. My thoughts are that if they are going to spend time creating a list, they might as well create a list that makes sense and atleast try to pretend that they are paying attention. Some of these all-region teams are pretty ridiculous.

Bulldog Baseball's Nicholson Selected to ABCA-Rawlings All-West Region Third Team

Senior pitcher Nolan Nicholson (Fullerton, CA) capped off a remarkable collegiate career with the University of Redlands baseball program, earning a spot on the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)-Rawlings All-West Region Third Team, as announced by the ABCA on Tuesday.

Nicholson (10-2) was the No. 1 starter in the Bulldog rotation all season and defeated two teams that advanced to the NCAA Division III College World Series (No. 9 Chapman University and No. 2 Kean University). In 89.1 innings of work, he struck out 45 batters while maintaining a 3.83 ERA, allowing as many earned runs as he did walks (38). Among Redlands pitchers who tossed more than 15 innings, he held the opposition to a team-low .269 batting average. Notably, Nicholson held the D3baseball.com Player of the Year, Pomona-Pitzer Colleges' Drew Hedman, hitless, forcing him out twice while walking him once.

This marks the second time that he has gained ABCA-Rawlings All-Region honors as he earned a spot on the All-West Region Second Team in 2008. Nicholson's other laurels include two ESPN The Magazine/College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District First-Team selections (2008, 2009), one First-Team All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) accolade (2008) and two Second-Team All-SCIAC nods (2006, 2009).

Redlands (25-15, 14-7 SCIAC) finished out the regular season at third in the SCIAC and won more than 20 games for the fifth straight season.

I just went through all the pitching stats for all of these all-west region guys, and im stunned to see that the ABCA pretty much only takes into account wins and losses. I know that W's are the most important in the end, but give me a break on some of these picks.
first team:
Orosey  3.72 era 10-1 with 45.1 ip with 46k's
Hinson  3.63 era 10-2 with 91.2 ip with 105 k's
Tigert    3.57 era 9-2 with 70.2 ip with 67 k's
second team:
Macklin   1.99 era 6-1 with 92 ip with 88 k's
McCulley 3.07 era 8-0 with 58.2 ip with 36 k's
Bleeker   4.59 era 9-1 with 64.1 ip with 55 k's
Colvin     3.15 era 7-0 with 80 ip with 54 k's
Holland   3.24 era 9-5 with 86 ip with 114 k's
Johnson  2.38 era 7-2 with 68 ip with 109 k's
third team:
Booher   3.50 era 9-1 with 69.1 ip with 49 k's
Ziegler   2.62 era 5-1 (6 saves) 34.1 ip with 55 k's
Carhuff  2.72 era 8-3 with 72.2 ip with 70 k's
Nicholson 3.83 era 10-2 with 89.1 ip with 45 k's
Jones    2.17 era 8-2(7 saves) 49.2 ip with 42 k's
Kitchens 2.19 era 6-1 with 61.2 ip with 71 k's

There is a total of 6 guys with more strikeouts than innings pitched
There is a total of 10 guys with 8 or more wins

I know this doesn't mean much, but I think the ABCA should put more effort into their selections because being first team all-region means you are eligible for All-American, and since I have 2 All-American plaques already I know what great of an honor it means.

Sorry for the ranting.

Who is a joke on the list?  Who would you put as 1st team?

I think all 3 first team pitchers shouldn't be there considering their high ERA. The three pitchers I would put there instead would be Macklin, Jones, and Johnson. All 3 have a low ERA, decent amount of wins, and a good amount of strikeouts per innings pitched. I was just trying to let people know that the ABCA pretty much only accounts for wins when considering all-region and even all-american.

JP-Does Cal Lu have a chance of winning two? PP looks like they can score on anyone. Does anyone know why PP's Church didn't pitch vs Chapman? Looks like a must win weekend for the Panthers if there's any hope for a shot at the Regionals, by their record you have to wonder.

I talked to a Pomona player after the P-P and Chapman series and asked why Church didn't pitch, and he said that his arm was bugging him a little so he was going to take a week off. I believe that he will pitch this upcoming weekend, or at least I hope he does. It is going to be a great series, wish I could watch it.

I cannot find the link for the 2008 Chapman stats on the new home page.

here you go Ralph. The stats on Yacko are amazing.

I would like to know the reasoning of putting Kean 7th in the nation while they lost to Chapman, La Verne, and Redlands in one week. They did beat Chapman, but it easily could have gone the other way. Aich did a wonderful job pitching that game while Sigman was not good, only going 2.1 innings.

With Kitchens being quite dominant at Oxy, I feel that Chapman is in trouble a bit as they gave up eight runs after he left in  only 4 innings.

Levitt did a decent job for the first two innings, but in the 8th he walked 4 and gave up a hit before getting pulled and not recording an out. Anderson came in and got an out and walked a batter, then irsfeld came in and walked a guy then got the final two outs in the inning. Pittman came in the 9th and was just hit. I think if the game was close at all semel would have came in.
In regards to the other starters, they have been nothing more than a disappointment. Sigman is great one day then horrible the next. Matamoros is struggling at this point and I won't be surprised if Luzar is now the number 3 starter.

chapman beat oxy 24-8. kitchens went 5 innings  and got the win. phillips hit 2 home runs.

Hartmann is a good hitter. Every time he hits the ball, it's hit hard. Here is the line on Chapman's Kitchens and Semel so far this year.

Anybody know how many career HR Hedman has?  Seems like he could make a run at Cortez's record, no?

According to ncaa.com Hedman has 40 career homeruns.

http://web1.ncaa.org/stats/StatsSrv/careerplayer //

I don't know if that link worked. But if you want to look, go to ncaa.com, select baseball, select stats, go to D3, individual stats- homeruns, click on Hedman, that will take you to PP stats, then click on Hedman again.

I'll agree with you there Jack.

The SCIAC-Co champs record so far against the SCIAC is a horrible 1-4.
They take on two NAIA teams in the next two games Westmont and Azusa Pacific are next on their list. Hopefully they can get two w's against these teams; even though they don't count as in region games, but affect the overall record.

Good luck to all SCIAC teams this weekend!

I heard a rumor today that Jolly from La Verne quit today. Is this true?

Chapman has 3 guys that consistently hit 90 all fall, january, and so far this spring. All of which have touched 93 a couple times. I will go out on a limb and say that Cal Lu does not win the west region, even though many think that the ego of Chapman is always being stroked, they will win it this year. I will agree that Chapman got off on the wrong foot losing the series against Whittier, but I think that they will learn from that travesty of a series and go on and dominate. They swept a much better team than most SCIACS this past weekend and looked amazing. I will end this by saying best of luck to Cal Lu and the rest of the SCIAC because Chapman is on a mission this year and no one will stop them.
