Mr. Downtown,

RF ahead of Point to create controversy.  Actually, if RF plays to their abilities and stops make the numerous mistakes as in recent years they will be a team that can contend for the conference.  The talent is there, but too many mistakes have hurt them (nummerous fumbles in the opponents red zone, fumbles in their own red zone, etc.).  Besides the preseason picks are for fun and all that really matters is how each team plays on Saturday.

BUT, to an extent I agree with you.  RF hasn't proven themselves as a contender YET.  IT will be another great year in the WIAC. :)

My hats off to UWSP...... Play #4 and than fly out  and play the #1  CATS. Anyone coming out let us know, we have a good time before the games and like to talk football. Keep in touch! You bring the cheese we have the Wine!
Only at a D3 football game could you have 2 seats on the 50 yard line (2 rows behind bluenote) and have an obstructed view!
I love D3 Football!!!

Bluegold..What is your impression of EC's passing game at this point?

blugold45

The passing game appears to be very solid, and along with that the already strong running game makes the blugolds offense look very tough on paper.  I know that they are thin at QB right now with some injurys.

Another thing that I heard was that Weber the starting cornerback has been injured  but the severity of that I am not sure.  If they lost him that would be another blow to their defense.

EC has some excellent receivers..you think they will try to use them more this year or will it be mostly Gast & Kaiser next week?   How large of crowd can we expect?

WIACobra

Kenneth,

If rumors serve me correctly, I believe that Kaiser is taking a medical redshirt.  So he'll be out the whole year.  Why this is, I am not sure.  I'd assume since they have 3 senior running backs that he is planning on waiting until next year to play his senior year.  As for Weber, he tore his ACL, and will most likely be out the entire season.  According to their Media guide the replacement will probably be a guy named Luke Plese who played in 8 games last season.  However their radio announcer told me they will probably start a guy named Shaggy Murphy.  I looked at the stats, and he had a pick last season, so at least we know he can do something.  He's also a local kid, so maybe that will bring more fans to Carson Park.  Either way, the Blugold should be fine on D, even without Weber's hard hitting.

As for the passing game, the Blugold always come out throwing, but Gast is set for a huge year, and has really developed into more of a power back.  I look forward to seeing him run more inside the tackles this season.  It will be nice to see the Gast/Mitchell(returning from knee surgery) duo that was present in 02 and 03.

I have been reading these posts for the last 5 years and I think that Platteville should be getting more credit then they are given. They will be the team to look out for this year. There is a lot of talent on the team and they play everyone really tough. I would watch out for Platteville this year, they are going to surprise some people.

Thanks for the warning, pville1. ;)

Out of curiousity, just what have they done in the past five years that they should be getting more credit for?   ???

blugold45

Eau Claire scrimmaged Bemidji State last weekend in Duluth.  They did very good against the Beavers.  BSU only scored once against the Blugolds and that was when they got the ball on the 30 going in.  Sounds like the Blugold defense is going to be very strong even with the loss of Weber and Roeker.

The offense did well under Kryz, and spread the ball around well while the offensive line handled the Beavers d-line.  If this scrimmage is any indication, the season looks to be a promising one.

Rumor has it that UW Stout lost a key offensive lineman who tore his acl last week and is out for the year.  Coach Strop is still confident that his team will still contend for a national title. :)

Last year at this time, St. Norbert and Midwest Conference fans were flooding this chatroom with "smack" about how they were going to kick Whitewater's butt in the 2004 season-opener.  Where is the "smack" this year, or are SNC fans simply laying low?

Well to say the least Tom, I think those Green Knights learned their lesson.  Wish I could be there fellow warhawk fans, but the new job has demands on saturdays!!  Go Warhawks and Go Badgers!!!//
