The NFL's purpose in the combine workout is not to reward or recognize prospects for their past play but to help NFL teams answer questions on prospects, which the teams want to be addressed primarily for their making of draft day decisions.

2005 Linfield vs. PLU

11,

Could you dub in a little warning signal that allows me to view the '05 game, but know exactly when to turn it off before that long interception return in the 3rd quarter. That would make for a much better viewing experience. Thanks.

D-train, I think we should wind the tape on some Linfield- PLU games when you and 11 played.  Do they still have reel to reel tape ?

GHC--

I wasn't even thinking of reel to reel.  I was thinking about how they used to take photos on the Flintstones....where the little bird pecks the image out on a rock.... ;D

Good to see all you hibernators roll over, burp, break wind and come on here before you snore and drool again...
Wildcat11 thanks for the entertainment. Your defensive proclivities are firmly ensconced in your work now.
I'm surprised no one made a big deal about the amazing one-hand punt in the PLU game. First time I was aware of it.
Thanks for the Brett links every one. Let us know if any of you get response from commenting on the slog.
I would think there would be many heading to the March 2nd audition if it's indeed open to the public. I would if I could.

When will the rest of the NWC schedules be out? So far Linfield, Whitworth and Lewis & Clark is it. It is never too early to start planning for next fall. Right now the only game on my slate is Whit @Menlo on Oct.12.

I had an interesting conversation with my dad regarding Elliott, the combine and the draft. Included were GHC's comments with the Bills scout. My dad suggested that a team may be very interested and not say much, try to keep a person under the radar (see the comments from the article about the seeming lack of knowlwdge by teams) and then sign the person as a free agent. Could Buffalo be thinking this way?

So what are the going odds that L & C will finish the season...?  :P

Seriously, I haven't been paying much attention. Has the atmosphere and attitude toward sports improved there at all?

I would think there are a lot of teams thinking that way. I'm sure many have scouts that find what they think to be "undiscovered gems" or "gems in the rough" that might need some polishing but could be good with some work.  Most teams, it seems to me, play it close to the vest. I noticed yesterday that the Houston Texans are suddenly saying they're open to listening to deals on the first pick.  Maybe they are, maybe they aren't but it has the dual result of getting teams to start salivating at the chance of perhaps overbidding for that first overall pick and work as a negotiating tool with the agent so the agent doesn't feel they have ALL the chips--just most of them.  Just my opinion.

While I wish Brett all the success in the world... I'd really hate to see him in Buffalo. And I say that with all the experience of having lived there for a number of years.
{Clever sign-off goes here.}

From 'Cats Fa Natic:
"Anyone else think Marcus Vick is a Ricky Williams waiting to happen?"
'I've really gotten disgusted with the NFL as a whole not only tolerating such behavior but seeming to embrace it at times."

Marcus Vick is a Ricky Williams that already has happened. Twice suspended and then kicked out of school.
Yea, here's a guy I'd really love to coach or have as a teammate.

Marcus Vick was stifled by multiple arrests and underage sex. Ricky Williams won the Heisman. I am not sure the comparison is very accurate.

And neither of them deserve to be in the nfl. Was it the Heisman or the HIGHsman he won? The comparison was in regard to where they are both at today. We're talking about a lack of character- not talent.

d-train

true, but with Vick a team will have plenty of warning about what they are getting for their bid/money. Remember that picture of Ditka in d-locks? They put a ton of stock in Williams. The Dolphins investment in him wasn't nearly as much.

frank uible,

What are your thoughts on the Wonderlic intelligence test for NFL prospects? Evidentally, Texas QB Vince Young is having, shall we say, just a little bit of trouble with it. Numerous reports state that he scored a butt-kicking 6, and then somewhere between 12-16 after being allowed to retake it. The average score for an NFL player is 21, and 25 for QBs.

If this is true, then it begs the question: How in the world did this guy make it through his college classes while "attending" school? I think this is a good time for a multiple choice answer:

A) His offensive linemen went to his classes and took his tests for him.
B) His backup offensive linemen went to his classes and took his
tests for him.
c) One of his wanna-be agents that leeched onto him since the time he was 10 years old went to his classes and took his tests for him.
D) Classes? We don't need no stinkin' classes!
A packed student section behind an end zone cheering on guys they will actually see in class on Monday is almost as cool as The Streak.
