I hope that all of you will have fun listening to the game this upcoming week.

THe reason why i say this is because, eventhough, Oxy did get a scare they will be ready this time. As tooth and others have mentioned, since this is the 3rd time oxy will appear at the dance, this will be their charm. Not only that, I am sure that Collins and Co. will do what it takes to come out with the right game plan. IMO, this is collins and Co. time to shine and leave it all to move on to the next round. Hopefuuly, they come out with more intensity and better urgency to bring the 2nd round home. Just my 2cents

Side note:
MCat--- And monrovia has how many great schools? Not sure why you would ended up jabbing at the Pasadena schools btw. At lot of the school have produced much more successful people than what Morrovia would ever produce. (i.e Jackie Robinson, and others that are just to many to even mention) Sorry that Monrovia will never have tradition like Pasadena. Not even my favorit author, Ray Bradburry, would ever step a foot in Monrovia. HHm, and San Marino.....well i'll let u try to rant and rave about that place that has nothing to offer.

Wow---managed to offend somebody with a comment about local public schools.  Sorry Brown Eagle---Perhaps I should clarify that my comment was in response to Tooth's "Monroria(if I could only live in Pasadena)Cat" and was meant in jest.  But now I really must point out (for you and Toothe)  that the reason we CHOSE to live in Monrovia instead of Pasadena or Altadena is because the schools are (or were when we moved here---haven't checked them out this year), on the whole, better.  The City of Monrovia has also been on the upswing for the past decade or so with a lot of money going into redevelopment.  Pasadena is a nice place to live as well but if you're planning on having kids and cannot afford private school or to live in San Marino, La Canada, South Pasadena, or Arcadia (all excellent public schools) then Monrovia or Temple City are better options.  I take it you, BrownEagle, live, work, or grew up in Pasadena?

BTW, I'm not sure if your last comment about San Marino was a knock on me or a knock on San Marino.  Either way, like I said, it was all in jest.
Go Cats!

Foss,

If you are correct...and Oxy wins (along with Central), I'm looking at a 297 mile drive from my house in St. Louis to Pella, Iowa.  Not sure how that will work out b/c it would be the Sat after Thanksgiving...but, it's always nice to dream (ahead).

If I'm looking at the brackets correctly, Oxy could end up @ UW-Whitewater, which would be more justifiable for me (and my better half) as I have relatives in Madison, WI.

Spokane first...

My original comment was not intended as anything other than a friendly jibe.

We live in Pasadena and send our child to a local independent school (private).

Given that  MC was class of '94 at SMH, then I'm far too old to know him, despite my connections having coached swimming at the SPSM YMCA in the 70's and the fact that I swim w/ some SM alums at the Rose Bowl as we speak.

Just funnin' fellas . . .

I believe in Jefferson's values of public education, but given the current testing mania . . . well, let's not kick off that discussion ok?

Go Oxy, beat the Pirates!

No worries Mcat. I was just kidding as well. I don't have any disrespect towards anyone.
But in all seriousness, I grew up in Pasadena all my life, am a product of a local public school in pasadena, was blessed to go to an awesome local private college in Eagle Rock and managed to come back to my community and provide to it through the education system. (

In all, I hope that the tigers ride the wave of success like they did in 04. This week should be a big week in task, in that films should be studied, practice should be explosive and competive like if it were 2-a-days, and the attitude should be of getting better. If what the NWC board points out correctly about the Rats, THe offense should be more than ready to produce. Finally, THe defense should handle what its been doing best and be ready for the rats as well

D O.C.

Yeah, well my mom grew up in Pasadena and went to PJC with Jackie and my dad went to Oregon with Mac.

I'm going to start off the week by contemplating the playoff experience of Occidental. (heretofor referred to as QPE)
I shall (about Tuesday PM) start considering that OXYCollins is from Zillah,WA, which is not quite as wide open as Spokane but he could handle bad weather. (BWF)
Lastly, I discuss and compare how Occidental can best handle the Clark to Allan (CtA) app. TH PM.
I'm bored.

Waiting for the stats from the Whittier game to be posted. But here is Occidental's season stats.

From the Occidental Website:

Tigers Draw Whitworth in NCAA 1st Round

Los Angeles (November 12, 2006)
http://www.oxy.edu/x8788.xml

After a thrilling 34-30 comeback victory over Whittier College Saturday at Patterson Field, Occidental (9-0) learned its first-round opponent in the NCAA Division III Football Championship.

The Tigers, currently ranked 10th by D3Football.com, will travel to Spokane, Wash. to face eighth-ranked Whitworth College (10-0), champions of the Northwest Conference, Saturday Nov. 18 at 12noon Pacific.

Whitworth clinched its first outright Northwest Conference title with a comeback victory of its own Saturday at the Pine Bowl, defeating Puget Sound 44-27.  All-American tight end Michael Allan set a Whitworth school record for yards receiving in a game with 251 yards on six catches.

Whitworth ranks 5th nationally against the pass and owns a turnover margin of 1.8, second in NCAA Division III.  Joel Clark, the Pirates' quarterback, ranks 18th in passing efficiency (153.2) and 28th in total offense with 237.6 yards per game.

This will be the first-ever meeting between the two schools in football and the first time Occidental has played a team nicknamed "Pirates".

Occidental will be making its third consecutive playoff appearance, its fifth in program history.  Quarterback Andy Collins '08 directed a 20-point fourth quarter comeback against Whittier, tossing touchdown passes of 12 and 15 yards to Chris Washington '10 and a 13-yarder to Jordan Inabnit '10 to provide the final margin.

Collins ranks 10th in total offense (283.5 ypg), 11th in passing efficiency (161.9), and is a two-time SCIAC Offensive Player of the Year.

Go TIGERS!!!

Tough days for Tiger Football.

Oxy Bob,

Slim, none, and fat? Heard it was a barn burner. Parents said it was a great game, but also said that the Oxy fans were sub par in their sportsmanship. Don't worry, we won't stoop to that level when you guys come up here. But tell your guys to bring their long undies, cause its gonna be cold for So. Cal standards.  I'd also like to throw some props out to my little bro for scoring his first collegiate TD against you guys this weekend. Whittier puts up 30 against you at home?? We're welcoming you with open arms.

firstdown

OXY - good luck in the playoffs.  Congrats to Whittier for their game on Saturday, they brought it despite their chances being "slim, none and fat(?)".  Oxy was in and had little to play for and were expecting a walk over.   A hard won battle like that will help Oxy get ready for the games to come.

dawg gone it

Bob,

Let me know what flight you are taking and where you are staying so I can join you, I promise I will orange and black.  ;)

LadyTiger

The Whittier game was an exciting one. The offense came out extremely flat and had some turnovers deep in Oxy territory. Didn't give the defense much of a chance to stop Whittier. I think lack of motivation played a big role in the slow start. I actually felt bad for the Whittier guys, they really played a great game.

I'm with Bob on the sportsmanship thing. I didn't hear any inappropriate teasing from the Oxy fans. Maybe because the away team is close to the stands there is a little more jabbing than usual and the parents just aren't used to that. I think that most offensive line I heard was "Hey, # so and so.....you're socks don't match!" Ouch...burn....those Oxy fans sure are rough ;) The Whittier fans were great, really made some noise during the first three quarters. Fan participation is general was some of the best I've seen in years.

So, what do we think about this match-up? I know that Whitworth has a HUGE tight-end. Seems to me that if Oxy doesn't win it will most likely be because of the size differences across the board. Concur? Disagree? Let's start the analysis!!

GO TIGERS!

Gray Fox

I've been travelling a lot for the last ten days or so, so I haven't been able to spend much time on this board.  I will be in LA from Thanksgiving until Dec 7.  If I understand some of the posts I might be able to see an Oxy/St. John's game.

After I get back to Texas, I will be able to see the Semi-Final game at Belton between Oxy and the tough UMHB (about two and a half hours from Dallas).  Three SCIAC games in one season for me.  Is this a great world or what? :D

One game at a time guys.

The La Verne guys that I talked to said that THe T.E is huge (so you are right on that L.T.,) but can be contained. If Oxy can hold up and play strong defense, this will give the Offense the opportunity for them to score. Rats will put on a game, but since they are only human, Oxy edges them out with Defense

Injury update about Joel Clark's ankle, from the Spokesman-Review:

Pirates Awarded Home Playoff Game

Clark, the Bucs' starting QB and all-time total offense leader, attended Sunday's get-together limping badly and wearing a plastic cast on the swollen right ankle he injured in the first quarter of Saturday's historic victory.

He said he still isn't certain whether he will practice this week.

"It's still a little tender," he admitted, "but, best-case scenario, I'll be back next Saturday."

Clark, who played through the considerable pain of his early game ankle sprain to burn UPS for 379 yards and three touchdown through the air, said he spent two hours in the training room following Saturday's game and had been icing and elevating his ankle as much as possible since then.

OxyBob

It would certainly be a shame if Clark doesn't play this weekend.  A shame for the Rats to get this far and then have to enter the playoffs without their QB.  A shame for Oxy to play a team that, if they beat, would never let the Tigers forget that they beat them with a back-up QB starting his first game.  For both teams, lets hope Clark is able to play on Saturday!
