Which MLB Manager said "a Manager is hired to be fired!"? ...

Well, among others, it was said by Yogi Berra about being fired by the Yankees:

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/baseball/mlb/news/1999/07/18/yogi_day_ap/

This specific reference was about the way he was terminated...
Thanks.  Billy Martin could probably have also commented on this.  He was fired by the Yankees more than once.  :)

CBE - Thanks for the update on Kiffin.  I knew he had moved around a lot, but it was worse than I thought!  He's been in Tampa a while, however, so maybe he bought a house this time.  :)

To all BC fans:
I will miss you all this weekend. Have fun and someone take pictures for me.I will be there
in spirit though
 Skoaltrain,
I leave the colorfull appetizers to you to make and bring, since I won't be making it.

                                       HAVE FUN

Now you now I'm not as good as you putting things like that together.  I can work some magic on different colors of beers though.  Red, Amber, Dark Stout such as Guiness, and arrange them in a "Holiday Fashion."

We'll be thinking about you!!!  Go Purple!!!  Wait, they are both purple....O.K.  UW-Whitewater is who I'm pulling for.  Mt. Union takes it for granted plus they have been there nine times.  Let someone else have a chance....

On a different subject,  it seems that Catholic University is leaving the ODAC in all sports except football:
****************************
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/12/12/AR2005121201287.html

Catholic University will join seven colleges in a new Division III conference. The conference, temporarily called "the group of eight," is not expected to be named for some time.

Catholic will be joined by Goucher College in Baltimore, Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, N.J., Drew University in Madison, N.J., the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, N.Y., Juniata College in Huntingdon, Pa., Moravian College in Bethlehem, Pa., and Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, Pa.

Play will begin in fall 2007 in all sports except football.
*****************

Of these schools, Moravian, Juniata, and Susquehanna play football in the MAC, the other schools listed do not seem to have football programs.

Pat C., knower of all things CUA, what is the story?

The story is on the front page of D3hoops.com.

I would love to be in Virginia for the National Championship, but it is my parent's bar Christmas party starting at 3 o'clock and is my last day student teaching (however I may go for 3 days the following week but that is another story) so I will not be able to make the trip to Salem this year. However, I do look forward to making a trip to Virginia to see a DIII National Championship game! When that happens I hope to enjoy the company of all the BC people who will be there and especially olinemom's brownies they were awesome!

We will miss you.  Lift an elbow on our behalf at that party.  It sounds like fun too!  I think I remember student teaching, but . . .no that was last century.  God, it really was last century!!  Have a Merry Christmas and I am sending some e-brownies--the triple chocolate Godiva ones!

He's the longest tenured DC in the NFL right now.  BC's own #99 spent some time with his this year.  I'm pretty sure Kid has a pic of him with Kiffin on his site.

Too bad they didn't keep #99.  They might not have lost those close games.  Desire counts for a lot, you know.

This would be too bad for BC.

However, in reading the article my attention was drawn to this:

"Despite having won five straight Old Dominion Athletic Conference championships and having compiled a 64-11 record since 2000, Clark said that he has not been contacted about openings at larger schools. He echoed Colbert's sentiment that he would entertain offers but that he was content with his current position."

I guess the risk of Coach Clark moving is small...but I really would have thought that there would have been (at least) some nibbles by now.
NO, Tusky, You cannot MOON Dr. Geisert!

Matt Barnhart (kid)

Obviously we'd all like Clark, Colbert, Soltis, etc... to stay the rest of their coaching careers, but unfortunately that's unlikely.

If I were them, I'd ask myself "what else can I accomplish at Bridgewater?"

I know, I know ... win a national title.  But that goal seems quite lofty considering only one team does it every year and coaches certainly can't wait for that to happen before making a move.

So after six straight NCAA appearances, 10 NCAA playoff wins, five straight ODAC titles, and a 35-game ODAC win streak ... what else can Colbert and others accomplish here at Bridgewater?  Pains me to say it, but other than winning it all, this coaching staff has accomplished it all.

I will say that I think this coaching staff has started something at Bridgewater, which I think can be maintained if the right person replaces those who leave.  It will be fun to see if BC's dominance can continue w/ the emergence of Guilford and Catholic, and the persistent "knocking on the door" by H-SC and W&L.

So I guess that's the challenge that remains for Colbert and Co. ... simply continue the dominance.

congrats to Marcus, Robbie, GNel and Ranardo on making the Bandits. Stay w/ it Sticky; you're good enough to play in that league.

and btw, i'm not answering questions about the DNR article.

Ironically, I asked Mrs. Colbert at the Funk yesterday about Coach Colbert's plans (the ironic part being me asking the day before the article ran).

She also was very good at not giving me any insider info :).

I sure hope Colbert doesn't leave ... both Mr. and Mrs. are awesome people.

I hope they don't leave, because I know someone that will miss them home cooked meals while at school. Then again if Coach Colbert leaves, maybe the other Colbert will take his spot  8)  J/K.

It is really hard to get a full-scholarship I-AA head coaching job from D-III -- who was the last person before K.C. Keeler to do so?

If that's what Clark is looking for, then it might be a long search. Meanwhile, D-III's a good place to be.

The D3 staff predictions for SB33 are on their way out...you might be surprised to see how close we all see the game.
